The East Coast of Australia has been through a lot in the last few months during this La Niña with the intense storms and floods.

"Australia's climate has warmed by around 1.47 °C for the 1910–2020 period. Rainfall across northern Australia during its wet season (October–April) has increased since the late 1990s. In recent decades there has been a trend towards a greater proportion of rainfall from high intensity short duration rainfall events, especially across northern Australia." the BoM said in their outlook report.

This means warmer temperatures and more rain, which means unprecedented amounts of mould making its way into our homes.

We have personally noticed the longevity and mould resistance in our own wardrobes amongst our hemp clothing.

This inspired us to write a blog to expand on the reasons why we might be witnessing this particular resistance to mould and the longevity of hemp items in general.

// Soil contamination is increasing at an alarming rate due to the human activities taking place on the planet.

Luckily Hemp has the powerful ability to bring our soil back to life by pulling foreign contaminants like heavy metals, pesticides and toxins out of polluted soil, through a process called ‘phytoremediation’ 🙏

This can even be used to remove radioactive contaminants from soil!

We can see this through research done around areas like the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine.

A research scientist from Phytotech stated;

“Hemp is proving to be one of the best phyto-remediative plants we have been able to find”.

Although these crops cannot be used for food, phytoextracted crops can later be burned as biofuel, providing an easy, renewable fuel resource!

This is especially relevant for Australia as an option for the devastating damage from the mining industry to clean and restore highly polluted land.

There is lots of new, exciting research coming out at an increasing rate now that Hemp is being legalised across the globe, so we are only just starting to see the extent of the Hemp plants many incredible uses.
