Hemp isn’t a one-off purchase. It’s something you can bring into your day, bit by bit, in more ways than most people realise. It’s a food. It’s a fibre. It’s in your soap, your clothes, your bag and your pantry.
And every day is full of little moments where you reach for the usual thing out of habit. The same breakfast. The same bottle in the shower. The same snack at 3pm. Each of those is a chance to choose something a bit better for you.
Our hemp shop in Woy Woy has been trading since 2010, and we’ve looked after it since 2013. What we’ve learnt is that nobody changes everything at once, and nobody needs to. You pick one moment, make one swap, and see how it feels. Here are a few moments, and a few everyday hemp products, to start with.
In this post
Morning: start the day with real food
Breakfast is the easiest place to begin. Sprinkle a tablespoon or two of hulled hemp seeds over your yoghurt, porridge or muesli. They’re soft and a bit nutty, and there’s no cooking or soaking. You’re adding plant protein and omega fats to a breakfast you were already having.
If you’re a smoothie person, blend a banana, a handful of frozen berries, a glass of milk, a spoon of hemp seeds and a heaped spoon of hemp protein powder. Add a teaspoon of cold-pressed hemp seed oil if you like it richer. Plain hemp protein is earthy, so start small and work up.
Keep the seeds in the fridge once they’re open. They stay fresher, and you’ll see them every morning.
Short on time? Keep it simple. A spoon of seeds on toast with avocado or peanut butter does the job. Or stir them through overnight oats before bed, so breakfast is ready when you are. Kids tend not to notice them, which helps.
In the shower: fewer bottles, simpler ingredients

GREEN Hemp – Hemp Soap Bar Lavender
Most bathrooms have a shelf full of plastic bottles. Swapping one for a hemp soap bar is a small choice you’ll feel good about every time you use it. Several of the bars we stock are made in Australia, like GREEN Hemp, Hemp Collective and Margaret River Hemp Co. They’re made with hemp seed oil, and the ingredient lists are short enough to actually read. A shampoo and conditioner bar in a tin takes out two more bottles. Add a hemp wash cloth, which gets softer the more you use it.
The bar we reach for most in the shop is GREEN Hemp’s lavender. It smells gentle, not like a perfume counter, and it lathers well for a bar. Keep it on a dish that drains so it dries out between uses, and it’ll last a lot longer. When it’s down to a sliver, press it onto the next bar and keep going.
Getting dressed: something that feels good on

Hemp Clothing Australia – Women’s Classic Tee
Hemp fabric breathes, and it softens every time you wash it. A good hemp tee often feels better in its third summer than its first. The fibre’s strong, so it lasts. You’ll probably retire it because you want something new, not because it’s worn out. If you’re curious, start with one tee or a few pairs of socks and see how you like the feel.
A new hemp tee can feel a bit firmer on the first wear, a bit like good linen. Give it a few washes and it relaxes and drapes. It doesn’t cling on a warm day, which is why plenty of our regulars live in hemp right through a Central Coast summer. Wash it cool, dry it in the shade, and it’ll hold its shape for years.
Out the door: the bag you’ll use every day

Hemp Clothing Australia – Tote Bag – Natural White
A hemp tote goes to the shops, the beach and the Saturday markets, and into the wash when it needs it. Over a few years it replaces a lot of single-use bags. It’s the swap you’ll notice least and use most.
Keep one folded in the car and one by the front door, and you’ll stop buying bags at the checkout. A hemp tote holds its shape with a proper load in it, like a week of fruit and veg or a couple of bottles. When it gets grubby, throw it in the wash. It just keeps going.
So why hemp, and not just any reusable bag? A lot of “reusable” bags are woven plastic, and they split or go shabby after a few months. Hemp is one of the strongest plant fibres around, so a hemp bag takes the weight and the wear, and it softens instead of falling apart. It’s made from a plant, not plastic. And the longer one bag lasts, the fewer you need to buy. That’s the whole point.
3pm: choose something that actually fills you up
This is the big one. Mid-afternoon, dinner’s hours away, and the vending machine, the lolly jar or an energy drink starts calling.
It’s a great moment to choose hemp instead. Reach for something with actual food in it: plant protein, fibre and fats from real ingredients, not mostly sugar. Many people find a snack like that more satisfying, and that it keeps them full until dinner.
And we’re not anti-coffee. This is the Central Coast. Have your flat white. If you’re eyeing a third, try this alongside it or instead.
The 2-minute afternoon shake
- 1 banana (fresh or frozen)
- 250ml milk of your choice
- 1 heaped tablespoon plain hemp protein powder
- 1 tablespoon hulled hemp seeds
- A few ice cubes, and a pinch of cinnamon if you like
Blend for 30 seconds. At work with no blender? Shake the protein, seeds and cold milk in a jar with a tight lid or a shaker bottle, and have the banana on the side.
For a chocolate version, use Good Country’s chocolate hemp protein, which is lightly sweetened with katemfe fruit extract. With a frozen banana it comes out thick, like a choc milk.
No blender at all? A spoon of hemp seeds over Greek yoghurt, or over sliced apple with cinnamon, does the job. So does a small handful of a hemp snack made with seeds, nuts and buckwheat. Some of those have added sweetness, so check the label and keep the portion sensible.
Keep the pack where the lollies used to live. It’s much easier to choose well when the good option is within reach.
Dinner: a finishing touch

Good Country Hemp – Hemp Seed Oil 250ml
Cold-pressed hemp seed oil is green and nutty. Use it raw, not for frying. Whisk it into a dressing, drizzle it over roast veg, or swirl it through hummus. A spoon of seeds over a salad adds texture, and nobody at the table needs convincing.
An easy one to start with: three parts hemp seed oil to one part lemon juice, a little Dijon mustard, salt and pepper. Shake it in a jar and it keeps in the fridge for a few days. Once the bottle’s open, keep the oil in the fridge too. It stays fresher that way.
It’s not just for salads, either. Drizzle it over pumpkin soup or a bowl of pasta right before it hits the table, or swap it in for olive oil next time you make pesto or dip bread. Just keep it off the heat. Hemp seed oil is delicate. Its fats break down quickly when heated, so we never cook or fry with it. Add it once the food’s off the stove.
Hemp seed oil is naturally rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fats, and a spoonful over dinner is an easy way to put more plant-based fats on your plate. It’s a small habit that’s easy to keep. Put it on the table next to the salt and pepper, and a little goes on most nights without you having to think about it.
Winding down
Some people keep a small bottle of the same hemp seed oil by the bathroom sink and rub a few drops into dry hands before bed. One bottle, two jobs.
Then there’s what you sleep in. A lot of conventional bedding and sleepwear is made from synthetic fibres like polyester, and that’s what sits against your skin all night. Hemp sheets are a bigger buy, so if they’re not on the cards yet, start with what you wear to bed. A hemp tee or pair of shorts is a natural fibre next to your skin for eight hours, and it breathes on warm nights. When you’re ready for the next step, we wrote recently about why we choose 100% hemp sheets.
And when you’re ready for hemp sheets, they’re worth it. Hemp linen breathes year-round and softens with every wash, so a good set gets better the longer you have it. Until then, put the phone down a bit earlier, make a cup of tea, and get into something that feels good against your skin.
Every choice adds up
None of this asks you to become a different person. You’re just choosing hemp in moments you already have. Each choice is a bit of care for yourself and the people around you. It also supports the growers and makers building a hemp industry, including Australian ones where that’s true.
Start with one moment this week. Maybe it’s seeds on your breakfast. Maybe it’s the 3pm shake three afternoons in a row. Maybe it’s a soap bar when the body wash runs out. See how it feels, then pick the next one.
We’re not promising hemp will change your life by Friday, and nothing here is a medicine. It’s good food and a tough, useful material, and it’s easy to make it part of your day.
